There's lots of history buffs around here, clearly for areas more than just WWII as well so I thought it could be good to have a thread to talk about it all in one place. Books, articles, podcasts, and movie recommendations etc. As well as some discussion on what people are interested in now.

I'll start off.

I've been listening to Revolutions Podcast of which the current series is about the revolutions in Spanish South America during the 19th Century. Absolutely fantastic series, would highly recommend it to listen to. He's also done English, French, American and Haitian revolutions.

I've also just finished reading The Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West by Patricia Nelson Limerick which is great for anyone who really wants to understand the American West and frontier. It's also crazy well written and an absolutely gripping read.

Thanks dog, I'm a huge history and podcast fan.

I assume you're across the Dan Carlin Hardcore History podcast. He just dropped a 6hr episode.

I have yeah, I used to listen to it when I was in high school years ago, though I'm a bit behind on it now, I should check it out again!

Anyone not listening to Hardcore History is doing life wrong. Destroyer of Worlds isn't his best work, but how on Earth could you compare to Blueprint for Armageddon?

The most recent book I read is called "Verdun: The longest battle of the Great War" by Paul Jankowski, a great resource for anyone interested in the first world war in general, but specifically for those interested in the clash between classical and modern warfare.

For those looking for books, try these that I've just read / re-read; they're all great:

- The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944-1945, Rick Atkinson

- Helmet for My Pillow, Robert Leckie

- Battleground Pacific, Sterling Mace

- Panzer Leader, Heinz Guderian (re-reading now)

(Edit: lined up I have: The Men Who Made the SAS, The Ottoman Endgame and Hillbilly Elegy)

For a really great book on the founder of the SAS check out The Phantom Major by Virginia Cowles. It's quite old now, but I don't think that negatively effects it too much.

Check out this video (and the channel) on the battle of Alesia, where Caesar's army was placed under siege while laying siege to a Gaulic army which was all part of his plan.
