Underrated/lesser known single player games

Hi everyone, in my quest to procrastinate studying for uni I'm looking for some personal recommendations on lesser known single player games that people here have really enjoyed.

I'll start us off.

Personal favorite: Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light.

Derived from the popular Russian novel, this game is based on factions that survive in the Russian underground metro network following a nuclear strike on the surface during WW3. During the game you travel (sometimes with peers to assist/guide you, or sometimes alone) both underground through the metro and above ground through the ruined remains of Moscow where you must sneak past or fight dangerous mutant beasts that have staked their claim. Below ground through the metro you make your way through new communities and fight enemy factions and bandits.
The game is story-driven, and challenging. Ammo in the game doubles as currency so you must conserve your bullets while in combat and carefully consider trading for new weapons/upgrades or you won't be able to afford filters for you gas-mask when travelling above ground (and risk suffocating from the radiation).

While the game is described as a post-apocalyptic horror-survival it does not rely on jump scares and instead creates tension with atmosphere (sense of feeling hunted in a low-light underground environment illuminated via your flashlight) and musical cues. The voice-acting and level design is amazing. The game has recently been re-released as a redux (new engine, improved graphics). I thoroughly recommend it, the DLC is all included and a tonne of fun as well.

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations.

FPS or normal?

I'm a big fan of this indie gem called The Witcher 3. I also like this older game, Batman: Arkham City. It's fairly old so you might not have heard of it. A true gem, though.

I'm into both. I'm also a huge fan of The Witcher 3! I played through the Witcher 2 on a whim before reading the first two books then pre-ordered the Witcher 3. I'll pick up Batman: Arkham City next time it's on sale.

One favourite of mine has to be Hand of Fate. Pretty simple and does rely on a bit (or a lot) of luck, but quite fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYbpdw7ep_Q

If you're craving something deeper or a solid RPG, Pillars of Eternity is a great one if you've ever played Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale. If you haven't then you need to.
Just don't start Baldurs Gate with a mage unless you're ready to die repeatedly from a stiff breeze(not joking), unless becoming an absolutely broken demi-god at the end justifies it for you.

Either Shadowrun: Dragonfall or Shadowrun: Hong Kong are great rpg's. Brilliant stories, challenging gameplay, characters that make bioware look downright pathetic, etc. Shadowrun returns isn't bad, but just can't hold a candle to the latter two.

Yeah I played the metro games, I like the first one more. Ill be playing the witch once I get a new graphics card.

I'd recommend Grim Dawn to people that like ARPGs. Its an old school game that doesn't hold your hand, interesting world, lots of secrets and cool loot.
Great offline singleplayer game, but you can host multiplayer if you want. The game has no anti cheat, online account, ranks or leaderboard. Great to play with friends.
Nice change from ARPGs that try to be an MMO.

The new Master of Orion isn't even fully released yet oz, though the originals are always great fun.
Very much want to pick up Stellaris though.
